Known as mining bees, members of the Andrenidae family are primarily solitary and nest in the ground. They are typically among the first bees to emerge during spring. Mining bees have a simple life cycle and are crucial for early spring flowering plants’ pollination. They are characterized by dense, often branched facial hairs called “foveae.”
