Receive appropriate qualifying certifications from other organizations such as the Xerxes Society, National Wildlife Federation and Homegrown National Park.
Historic American Landscapes Survey

Historic American Landscapes Survey
For properties of cultural, natural or historical significance, a short form Historic American Landscapes Survey (HALS) may be appropriate.
This program captures significant historical and character-defining features of your landscape for preservation at the Library of Congress.
Archives of American Gardens

Smithsonian Archives of American Gardens
Your garden’s collected history and photographs will be submitted to the Smithsonian Archives of American Gardens.
The mission of the Archives is to preserve the rich history of the American garden.
Legacy Gift for Your Community

Legacy Gift for Your Community
Your legacy doesn’t end at the borders of your garden.
$15,000 of the program fee is earmarked for work in your local community. Student teams led by professional mentors will curate special landscapes such as historic sites or notable public gardens.
Legacy Garden commission appointments will be scheduled starting March 1, 2026. Twelve commissions are available for 2026. A minimum of 20 plant species is required.
