Fairy ring mushrooms are also known as fairy ring champignon or scotch bonnet mushrooms. its Latin name or scientific name is Marasmius oreades. they are an edible species of mushroom; most mushroom foragers eat only the cap of them as the stem is a lot more tough. Fairy ring mushrooms are native to North America and Europe and typically grow in open grassy areas and forests
Folklore about fairy rings originated in German and Celtic mythology. fairy rings are seen as a symbol of good luck in mythology. They are created by a group of faeries, elves, or pixies dancing in a circle. it is said that if a human joined in the dance they would be forced to dance in the circle until they died or passed out.In reality, fairy rings are caused when a mushroom spawn or mycelium is in a sufficient habitat and roots of hyphae grow in all directions. Each root forms a mushroom creating a ring or circle of mushrooms all stemming from the same mycelium.
